The BOOKPRESS | November 1999 |
the birds rise up
the woman works
her eyes travel
sometimes
a way of knowing
flight is silent
as a wish at water’s
edge
in one long wonder
or hover
where poem meets
page
her memory of feather
with fingers
light as bone
where forests begin
a song of nests
beyond words’ reach
and ocean lets
her go
